L-1 Identity Solutions to Continue as Prime Contractor to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for Hazardous Materi
STAMFORD, Conn.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--L-1 Identity Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: ID), a leading provider of identity solutions and services, was again selected by the TSA as the prime contractor to provide enrollment services to commercial drivers seeking an HME endorsement on their Commercial Drivers' License (CDL). The total contract term is expected to be one year, including three one-year options, with total estimated revenue in excess of $80 million over four years. L-1 first began delivering HazPrint program services to the trucking industry in January 2005.
L-1 operates and maintains a secure electronic fingerprint and biographical enrollment network in the 37 states and District of Columbia which have chosen to use the TSA Agent to collect and submit the data required for the Hazardous Materials endorsement. The USA PATRIOT Act prohibits states from issuing a license to transport hazardous materials in commerce unless a determination has been made that the driver does not pose a security risk. TSA implemented the HME Threat Assessment Program (HTAP) to meet the mandate of the USA PATRIOT Act, and requires all drivers seeking to obtain, renew or transfer an HME on a CDL to undergo a background assessment. The background check consists of a fingerprint-based criminal history records check, an immigration status check and an intelligence-based check for ties to terrorism.
"After four years of working in close partnership, we are proud the TSA selected us to continue this service," said Robert V. LaPenta, Chairman, President and CEO of L-1 Identity Solutions. "This award recognizes all the hard work we do for the TSA and their stakeholders on this important program, including the state licensing bureaus and of course the nation's commercial truckers."
The Enrollment Services Division of L-1 provides fingerprint-based background checks services that process applicant data required for federal and state licensed programs and jobs in the banking, finance, insurance, healthcare, legal, real estate, education and other industries. L-1 operates a network of more than 700 convenient and secure centers located across 46 U.S. states and in most Canadian provinces where prospective licensee and employee fingerprints are captured and submitted electronically. Criminal history results are received in days, enabling agencies and organizations to get the identity information they need to make licensing and hiring decisions faster and more accurately than ever before. More than six million people have been printed to date through L-1 enrollment services. For more information, or to locate an L-1 center, go to [ http://www.l1id.com/enrollment-services ].
