SYDNEY--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ Teradata ] Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the world's largest company solely focused on [ data warehousing ] and [ enterprise analytics ], announced today that Australian Pharmaceutical Industries (API) has completed the first implementation phase of a Teradata system that enables integrated visibility into sales and inventory process data details.

API is one of Australia's leading providers of products and services to branded and independent community pharmacies. It provides daily distribution of products to pharmacies through its network of distribution centers and regional branches in Australia.

API Pharmacy Division has completed the initial phase of its enterprise data warehouse program, including the migration and consolidation of data from its X-Series SQL Server environment into its [ Teradata Data Mart Appliance ]. API reports that the cost-effective appliance from Teradata is adding business value and is leading to better, faster decisions.

"Our new Teradata Data Mart Appliance is the beginning of our [ enterprise data warehouse ] implementation program and has already resulted in faster and more accurate information delivery to the Pharmacy Division," said Brett Hart, Application Manager, API Pharmacy Division. "Since replacing our SQL Server-based environment with Teradata, we are gaining access to significant new insights and opportunities to do business more efficiently and effectively. Our next step is to establish a true enterprise data warehouse, by bringing in detailed data from our Retail and Pharmacy businesses."

"We didn't regard ourselves as a typical Teradata customer and initially had limited in-house Teradata skills, but we developed quickly," Hart added. "We took on the majority of the implementation ourselves and we have maintained our self-sufficiency post implementation. By using our existing IT resources, together with the decision to start with an entry level appliance platform, we have been able to put together a cost effective solution that is showing ROI."

The new Teradata Data Mart Appliance will support the ever-changing API business with better and faster information delivery to the system users. API expects further improvement in producing detailed analytical reports at accelerated speeds – as well as more ad hoc on-demand capability across its growing business intelligence user community.

"API's implementation is a great example of how easily and quickly our customers can get unmatched price performance for real-world business intelligence applications – from Teradata, the global leader," said Noel Pettitt, vice president of Teradata for Australia and New Zealand. "API is a great example of customers of all sizes leveraging the power of Teradata and our new Platform Family."

The Teradata [ Purpose-Built Platform Family ] includes the [ Teradata Data Mart Appliance ], the [ Teradata Extreme Data Appliance ], the [ Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance ], and the [ Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse ] platforms. Each member is purpose-built and leverages the powerful Teradata database to meet the needs of customers from data marts to an entry level data warehouse, to the most sophisticated active enterprise data warehouses at new affordable price points.

Brett Hart will present API's case study, "Project Ventolin - Resuscitating the API Data Warehouse" at the Teradata Universe in Sydney on March 10, 2009 and Melbourne on March 12, 2009. For more information on Teradata Universe please see: [ www.teradatauniverse.com.au ].
