ATLANTA--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Zep Inc. (NYSE:ZEP), a leading provider of specialty chemicals and cleaning solutions, has introduced its first EPA-approved product for destroying biofilm coatings found in food processing area drains and plumbing. Biofilms protect and harbor salmonella, E. coli, listeria and many other pathogens which cause deadly illnesses, and Zep's new Biofilm Drain Purge™ removes the biofilm and kills these resistant microorganisms in hard to reach places. The USDA has reported that 28% of food processing area floors and drains tested positive for listeria alone.

"The USDA recommends that food processors partner with sanitation suppliers such as Zep to develop a thorough sanitation program," stated John K. Morgan, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Zep. "Our new Biofilm Drain Purge is part of our ongoing food sanitation program which is designed to ensure a safe, contamination-free food operation across a wide range of markets. We are very pleased the EPA has recognized our new product's capability to help assure a safer American food supply."

Zep Biofilm Drain Purge attacks biofilms and acts as a bactericide, slimicide and algicide. Typical competitive products are ineffective against typical pathogens found in biofilms.
