January 4, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2564 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1865 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3401 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. DIREXION DAILY FINL BEAR 3X (NYSE:FAZ), HUNTINGTON BANCSHARES INC (NASDAQ:HBAN), DRYSHIPS INC (NASDAQ:DRYS), MICRON TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:MU), DIRECTV-CLASS A (NASDAQ:DTV), VANGUARD EMERGING MARKET ETF (NYSE:VWO). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     FAZ $0.040 0.46% 13,355,020 47.81% 14,728,960 52.73% -1,373,940 Abnormal
     HBAN $0.080 1.13% 15,408,240 46.41% 17,739,168 53.43% -2,330,928 Abnormal
     DRYS $0.130 2.50% 16,648,870 46.99% 18,216,355 51.41% -1,567,485 Abnormal
     MU $0.140 1.63% 21,445,862 48.62% 25,440,974 57.68% -3,995,112 Abnormal
     DTV $0.280 0.68% 4,048,363 41.37% 5,677,665 58.01% -1,629,302 Abnormal
     VWO $0.180 0.37% 8,298,827 46.12% 9,761,742 54.25% -1,462,915 Abnormal

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows VWO with 1,462,915 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.18000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
