EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Aura Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:AUSI) announced today it was informed that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Jan. 16 cleared the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to begin enforcing its regulations to reduce particulate matter in transport refrigeration units ("TRU") on July 17, 2009. The Oasis all-electric truck refrigeration solution by Aura Systems eliminates the TRU diesel engine altogether and is not subject to the upcoming CARB regulations. In addition Oasis provides today the dream of zero emissions TRUs.

Under the CARB rules, model year 2001 and older TRUs ("Reefer") must reduce PM emissions by 50% on or before July 16, 2009. The original enforcement date was set to go into effect at the end of 2008, but was delayed by challenges from the transportation industry. Model year 2002 units must reduce PM emissions by 50% by the end of this year and by 85% on or before 2016. Model year 2003 units must reduce PM emissions by 85% by the end of 2010, and the phase-out continues until TRUs with 2013 off-road diesel engines become available. In addition to complying with the emission rules, trucks with reefers entering or operating in the state of California must be registered with CARB's reefer registry. California-based businesses will be required to be registered with CARB's reefer registry by March 31, 2009.

Options for compliance include replacing the TRU with one that's seven years old or less, retrofitting with CARB-verified diesel particulate filters or using alternative technologies such as an all-electric solution provided by Aura Systems Inc.

Mr. Gagerman, Aura's CEO, said, "We are pleased to be able to provide a solution which totally eliminates the transport refrigeration diesel engine and thus eliminates all of the PM emissions. Users who will upgrade their truck's refrigeration systems to Aura's Oasis solution will not need to register with the state and will be compliant for all future regulations."

Mr. Joe Dickman, Aura's VP of sales, said, "We started on this path of an all-electric solution for midsize refrigeration trucks a number of years ago and we are now witnessing the start of a new era where environmental considerations are taking precedence over other issues. We at Aura are working diligently to provide environmentally friendly solutions for transport refrigeration systems as well as numerous other applications."
