January 13, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2525 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2227 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2744 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. LORILLARD INC (NYSE:LO), VALE SA-SP ADR (NYSE:VALE), MGM RESORTS INTERNATIONAL (NYSE:MGM), PROSHARES ULTRASHORT S&P500 (NYSE:SDS), TAUBMAN CENTERS INC (NYSE:TCO), ISHARES MSCI MEXICO INVESTAB (NYSE:EWW). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     LO $-0.050 -0.06% 2,759,584 75.14% 710,150 19.34% 2,049,434 Abnormal
     VALE $-0.550 -1.50% 14,479,072 59.43% 11,272,144 46.26% 3,206,928 Abnormal
     MGM $-0.080 -0.49% 17,902,632 47.06% 16,294,321 42.83% 1,608,311 Abnormal
     SDS $-0.070 -0.31% 13,529,602 55.95% 11,161,277 46.16% 2,368,325 Abnormal
     TCO $-0.280 -0.55% 7,521,615 74.08% 2,382,028 23.46% 5,139,587 Abnormal
     EWW $-0.160 -0.25% 2,767,939 86.48% 1,320,057 41.24% 1,447,882 Abnormal

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows EWW with 1,447,882 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.16000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
