January 14, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2358 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3378 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2061 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Friday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. ALEXZA PHARMACEUTICALS INC (NASDAQ:ALXA), ULTRATECH INC (NASDAQ:UTEK), BROOKS AUTOMATION INC (NASDAQ:BRKS), CIMATRON LTD (NASDAQ:CIMT), MAJESCO ENTERTAINMENT CO (NASDAQ:COOL), NANOMETRICS INC (NASDAQ:NANO). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     ALXA $0.340 25.76% 3,804,004 58.00% 2,754,520 42.00% 1,049,484 30,867
     UTEK $3.090 15.32% 368,467 57.08% 268,605 41.61% 99,862 323
     BRKS $1.700 16.62% 1,120,355 57.69% 816,070 42.02% 304,285 1,790
     CIMT $0.500 15.29% 154,095 60.44% 100,476 39.41% 53,619 1,072
     COOL $0.210 18.42% 1,492,043 56.93% 1,128,825 43.07% 363,218 17,296
     NANO $3.980 29.59% 2,989,852 52.07% 2,625,928 45.73% 363,924 914

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows NANO with a dollar gain Friday of $3.98000 and a Friction Factor of 914 shares. That means that it only took 914 more shares of buying than selling to move NANO higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
