January 13, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2525 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2227 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2744 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. CHINA VALVES TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:CVVT), YM BIOSCIENCES INC (AMEX:YMI), LOOKSMART LTD (NASDAQ:LOOK), COINSTAR INC (NASDAQ:CSTR), PROVECTUS PHARMACEUTICAL INC (OTCBB:PVCT), EL CAPITAN PRECIOUS METALS (OTCBB:ECPN). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction CVVT $-1.690 -19.38% 1,589,831 36.29% 2,757,268 62.94% -1,167,437 -6,908 YMI $-0.390 -14.77% 1,439,193 37.06% 2,101,067 54.11% -661,874 -16,971 LOOK $-0.260 -13.20% 276,800 39.70% 366,482 52.57% -89,682 -3,449 CSTR $-17.680 -30.89% 1,192,302 46.09% 1,380,920 53.38% -188,618 -107 PVCT $-0.170 -15.74% 457,374 41.64% 609,939 55.53% -152,565 -8,974 ECPN $-0.230 -19.17% 548,386 32.87% 884,826 53.04% -336,440 -14,628
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows ECPN with a dollar loss Thursday of $-0.23000 and a Friction Factor of -14,628 shares. That means that it only took 14,628 more shares of selling than buying to move ECPN lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
