Market Maker Surveillance Report. CPOW, ONNN, EWJ, NE, QLGC, XLF, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Friday, January 14th 201
January 14, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2358 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3378 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2061 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. CLEAN POWER CONCEPTS INC (OTCBB:CPOW), ON SEMICONDUCTOR CORPORATION (NASDAQ:ONNN), ISHARES MSCI JAPAN INDEX FD (NYSE:EWJ), NOBLE CORP (NYSE:NE), QLOGIC CORP (NASDAQ:QLGC), FINANCIAL SELECT SECTOR SPDR (NYSE:XLF). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction CPOW $0.063 37.72% 30,209,093 37.46% 48,384,479 60.00% -18,175,386 Abnormal ONNN $0.290 2.53% 8,316,025 40.30% 12,428,773 60.23% -4,112,748 Abnormal EWJ $0.030 0.27% 20,517,980 44.18% 29,331,564 63.16% -8,813,584 Abnormal NE $0.130 0.34% 11,804,720 19.57% 27,824,174 46.14% -16,019,454 Abnormal QLGC $0.660 3.80% 4,059,714 16.30% 26,239,326 105.37% -22,179,612 Abnormal XLF $0.280 1.73% 43,294,714 47.06% 49,247,834 53.53% -5,953,120 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows XLF with 5,953,120 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.28000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
