December 31, 2010 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2525 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2838 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2875 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. INTEL CORP (NASDAQ:INTC), GENERAL ELECTRIC CO (NYSE:GE), PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), ISHARES MSCI EMERGING MKT IN (NYSE:EEM), FINANCIAL SELECT SECTOR SPDR (NYSE:XLF). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     INTC $0.010 0.05% 6,992,285 41.45% 9,869,524 58.51% -2,877,239 Abnormal
     GE $0.130 0.71% 11,368,957 42.37% 13,483,729 50.25% -2,114,772 Abnormal
     PFE $0.020 0.11% 9,850,634 41.61% 12,317,341 52.03% -2,466,707 Abnormal
     SPY $0.190 0.15% 38,140,262 45.84% 44,174,459 53.09% -6,034,197 Abnormal
     EEM $0.310 0.66% 14,722,707 39.43% 22,617,993 60.58% -7,895,286 Abnormal
     XLF $0.050 0.31% 9,762,198 44.37% 12,236,608 55.61% -2,474,410 Abnormal

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows XLF with 2,474,410 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.05000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
