November 23, 2010 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2533 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1372 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4138 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the highest net sell volume on Tuesday and lowest negative price Friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. MICROSOFT CORP (NASDAQ:MSFT), NOVELL INC (NASDAQ:NOVL), BANK OF AMERICA CORP (NYSE:BAC), CITIGROUP INC (NYSE:C), SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), ISHARES MSCI EMERGING MKT IN (NYSE:EEM). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction MSFT $-0.590 -2.29% 30,750,470 43.24% 39,371,819 55.37% -8,621,349 -146,125 NOVL $-0.020 -0.34% 12,069,940 28.57% 30,171,020 71.43% -18,101,080 -9,050,540 BAC $-0.200 -1.77% 77,188,643 39.09% 103,926,566 52.63% -26,737,923 -1,336,896 C $-0.080 -1.91% 168,835,337 44.02% 206,254,112 53.77% -37,418,775 -4,677,347 SPY $-1.870 -1.56% 94,215,815 44.48% 102,147,690 48.23% -7,931,875 -42,416 EEM $-1.460 -3.15% 39,908,199 43.12% 52,507,580 56.73% -12,599,381 -86,297
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have low price friction combined with more selling than buying (negative Net Volume) in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows EEM down $-1.46000 with a Friction Factor of -86,297 and a Net Volume of -12,599,381. That means that it takes 86,297 more shares of selling than buying to drop EEM by one penny. On Monday the Market Makers allowed the stock to move down on heavier selling than buying (low negative friction).
