More Than 10.5 Million Unique Visitors in Canada: Canoe Network Sets New Traffic Record
MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - May 3, 2012) - Sun Media Corporation, a subsidiary of Quebecor Media, proudly announces that the Canoe network has set a Canadian traffic record with more than 10.5 million unique visitors per month. The Canoe network comprises all Quebecor Media websites, including the TVA and Archambault sites as well as all Sun Media Corporation sites.
Canada's top online destination for news and information
The new milestone confirms the Canoe network's strong position as the most frequently visited online destination for news and information in Canada. The Canoe network ranks 9th in visitor traffic among all web properties in Canada and 2nd in Québec, just behind the behemoth Google, which logs 5.8 million unique visitors per month.
The Canoe network now reaches 41% of all Internet users in Canada and more than 95.5% of Internet users in Québec. "Our priority for the Canoe network, as for our newspapers, television services and digital content delivery channels, is to provide users with the best possible experience by offering rich content and quality information in a user-friendly environment," said Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor, Quebecor Media and Sun Media Corporation. "We are pleased to see that, once again, we have been able to meet our customers' expectations."
Reasons for dramatic growth
The strong growth was due in large part to Sun Media Corporation's efforts to refocus its digital services. The Corporation has overhauled many of its websites across Canada, including the Toronto Sun, Ottawa Sun, Calgary Sun, Winnipeg Sun and Edmonton Sun sites. It also launched a number of English-language community sites recently and will create more between now and the fall of 2012.
In Québec, the journaldemontreal.com and journaldequebec.com sites have registered impressive traffic increases since they were revamped in February 2012, with more than 407,000 and 211,000 unique visitors respectively. As well, the resounding success of the TVA network's popular program Star Académie drove traffic to its website.
With 10.5 million unique visitors per month, the Canoe network is an essential Canadian online destination not only for consumers but also for advertisers seeking a quality web environment to reach their target audiences. The Canoe network's powerful position is the result of a sustained collective effort by all its people to satisfy its loyal visitors and advertisers.
