May 1, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3839 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2964 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2820 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. BP PLC-SPONS ADR (NYSE:BP), POPULAR INC (NASDAQ:BPOP), FOREST OIL CORP (NYSE:FST), H&R BLOCK INC (NYSE:HRB), Integrated Device Technology Inc (NASDAQ:IDTI), HOLOGIC, INC. (NASDAQ:HOLX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  BP $-0.660 -1.52% 4,486,963 46.40% 2,657,704 27.48% 1,829,259 Abnormal
  BPOP $-0.010 -0.56% 3,972,687 55.52% 3,168,691 44.28% 803,996 Abnormal
  FST $-1.390 -10.44% 4,623,294 39.31% 3,050,106 25.93% 1,573,188 Abnormal
  HRB $-0.040 -0.27% 2,560,819 38.69% 1,418,939 21.44% 1,141,880 Abnormal
  IDTI $-0.680 -10.04% 6,907,084 58.44% 4,908,815 41.53% 1,998,269 Abnormal
  HOLX $-0.280 -1.47% 6,151,316 57.06% 4,622,343 42.88% 1,528,973 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Tuesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows BP with 1,829,259 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.66000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
