May 1, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3839 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2964 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2820 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. CONOCOPHILLIPS (NYSE:COP), SAVIENT PHARMACEUTICALS INC (NASDAQ:SVNT), US Ecology Inc (NASDAQ:ECOL), Pep Boys Manny Moe and Jack (NYSE:PBY), HERBALIFE LTD (NYSE:HLF), OPTIMUMBANK HOLDINGS INC (NASDAQ:OPHC). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  COP $-15.000 -20.94% 4,458,433 29.41% 5,380,241 35.50% -921,808 -615
  SVNT $-0.510 -21.52% 2,972,063 47.96% 3,217,531 51.92% -245,468 -4,813
  ECOL $-4.930 -22.78% 365,103 44.06% 459,660 55.48% -94,557 -192
  PBY $-3.210 -21.50% 4,626,138 37.62% 4,960,744 40.34% -334,606 -1,042
  HLF $-13.720 -19.51% 8,868,881 28.91% 9,162,733 29.87% -293,852 -214
  OPHC $-0.870 -34.39% 641,786 47.16% 717,954 52.75% -76,168 -875
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows COP with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-15.00000 and a Friction Factor of -615 shares. That means that it only took 615 more shares of selling than buying to move COP lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
