Market Maker Surveillance Report. SPY, PFE, NSM, DTV, BMY, NSR, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Thursday, April 14th 2011
April 14, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2561 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2709 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2434 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR CORP (NYSE:NSM), DIRECTV-CLASS A (NASDAQ:DTV), BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB CO (NYSE:BMY), NEUSTAR INC-CLASS A (NYSE:NSR). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction SPY $0.060 0.05% 70,340,904 44.77% 84,325,082 53.67% -13,984,178 Abnormal PFE $0.030 0.17% 19,279,263 40.00% 24,073,600 49.95% -4,794,337 Abnormal NSM $0.080 0.33% 3,676,210 35.51% 6,020,563 58.15% -2,344,353 Abnormal DTV $0.010 0.03% 2,666,452 37.53% 4,417,414 62.18% -1,750,962 Abnormal BMY $0.280 1.02% 4,565,340 36.36% 6,229,541 49.61% -1,664,201 Abnormal NSR $0.030 0.12% 124,822 5.10% 2,299,647 94.04% -2,174,825 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows SPY with 13,984,178 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.06000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
