Market Maker Surveillance Report. XLP, TXN, YMI, ORCL, BRNC, XLV, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Friday, April 15th 2011
April 15, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2879 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2881 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2007 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. CONSUMER STAPLES SPDR (NYSE:XLP), TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC (NYSE:TXN), YM BIOSCIENCES INC (AMEX:YMI), ORACLE CORP (NASDAQ:ORCL), BRONCO DRILLING CO INC (NASDAQ:BRNC), HEALTH CARE SELECT SECTOR (NYSE:XLV). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction XLP $0.190 0.62% 3,873,466 43.86% 6,070,434 68.73% -2,196,968 Abnormal TXN $0.280 0.81% 4,551,037 37.37% 6,676,763 54.82% -2,125,726 Abnormal YMI $0.140 5.56% 1,135,354 15.97% 5,883,328 82.78% -4,747,974 Abnormal ORCL $0.380 1.12% 13,224,629 51.90% 16,909,059 66.36% -3,684,430 Abnormal BRNC $0.600 5.77% 3,525,232 36.61% 6,103,667 63.39% -2,578,435 Abnormal XLV $0.350 1.04% 4,454,184 45.89% 6,521,564 67.19% -2,067,380 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows XLP with 2,196,968 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.19000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
