January 12, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2508 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3279 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2028 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. WESTERN UNION CO (NYSE:WU), ORACLE CORP (NASDAQ:ORCL), KANSAS CITY SOUTHERN (NYSE:KSU), PROSHARES ULTRASHORT S&P500 (NYSE:SDS), VALEANT PHARMACEUTICALS INTE (NYSE:VRX), CANADIAN NATURAL RESOURCES (NYSE:CNQ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     WU $-0.100 -0.51% 2,669,667 53.92% 1,851,818 37.40% 817,849 Abnormal
     ORCL $-0.020 -0.08% 17,218,430 54.91% 14,132,473 45.07% 3,085,957 Abnormal
     KSU $-0.140 -0.27% 1,054,585 70.89% 366,455 24.63% 688,130 Abnormal
     SDS $-0.370 -1.60% 12,119,720 52.16% 11,116,176 47.84% 1,003,544 Abnormal
     VRX $-0.060 -0.17% 2,147,205 58.39% 1,275,062 34.67% 872,143 Abnormal
     CNQ $-0.410 -0.96% 3,210,675 60.29% 1,620,640 30.43% 1,590,035 Abnormal

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Wednesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows CNQ with 1,590,035 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.41000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
