June 13, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 3532 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1765 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3757 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. ALPHA NATURAL RESOURCES INC (NYSE:ANR), CITIGROUP INC (NYSE:C), Synovus Financial Corp (NYSE:SNV), VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS INC (NYSE:VZ), US Airways Group Inc (NYSE:LCC), FRONTIER COMMUNICATIONS CORP (NASDAQ:FTR). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  ANR $0.130 1.57% 4,627,728 27.92% 5,676,070 34.24% -1,048,342 Abnormal
  C $0.070 0.25% 12,692,029 27.14% 14,594,346 31.21% -1,902,317 Abnormal
  SNV $0.050 2.91% 2,603,358 32.02% 3,785,479 46.55% -1,182,121 Abnormal
  VZ $0.190 0.44% 3,047,564 27.06% 4,187,737 37.18% -1,140,173 Abnormal
  LCC $0.600 5.25% 3,734,135 30.76% 4,726,217 38.93% -992,082 Abnormal
  FTR $0.060 1.63% 5,792,927 37.83% 9,510,943 62.10% -3,718,016 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Wednesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows ANR with 1,048,342 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.13000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
