Market Maker Surveillance Report. THLD, CHK, GILD, GE, CHUX, CVM, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Monday, February 6th 201
February 6, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3923 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2557 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3336 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. THRESHOLD PHARMACEUTICALS (NASDAQ:THLD), CHESAPEAKE ENERGY CORPORATION (NYSE:CHK), GILEAD SCIENCES, INC. (NASDAQ:GILD), GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY (NYSE:GE), O'CHARLEYS INC (NASDAQ:CHUX), CEL-SCI CORP (AMEX:CVM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction THLD $0.430 14.38% 9,459,246 48.01% 10,198,696 51.76% -739,450 Abnormal CHK $0.340 1.52% 4,087,484 27.55% 5,363,245 36.14% -1,275,761 Abnormal GILD $1.450 2.64% 8,719,938 45.79% 10,116,596 53.13% -1,396,658 Abnormal GE $0.010 0.05% 12,523,106 31.08% 15,353,879 38.11% -2,830,773 Abnormal CHUX $2.880 41.62% 7,712,642 44.16% 9,603,556 54.98% -1,890,914 Abnormal CVM $0.080 23.12% 2,480,432 24.40% 4,632,129 45.57% -2,151,697 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Monday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows THLD with 739,450 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.43000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
