December 23, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3785 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3591 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2320 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. CITIGROUP INC (NYSE:C), HUNTINGTON BANCSHARES INC (NASDAQ:HBAN), ALCOA INC. (NYSE:AA), DR HORTON INC (NYSE:DHI), COMPUWARE CORPORATION (NASDAQ:CPWR), HOST HOTELS & RESORTS INC (NYSE:HST). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     C $-0.250 -0.90% 11,634,591 32.52% 10,353,585 28.94% 1,281,006 Abnormal
     HBAN $-0.010 -0.18% 5,470,829 54.58% 4,550,916 45.41% 919,913 Abnormal
     AA $-0.040 -0.51% 6,149,568 38.04% 4,402,709 27.23% 1,746,859 Abnormal
     DHI $-0.070 -0.56% 1,281,859 44.04% 703,429 24.17% 578,430 Abnormal
     CPWR $-0.020 -0.24% 1,953,437 57.31% 1,404,841 41.22% 548,596 Abnormal
     HST $-0.060 -0.44% 1,598,098 43.63% 975,276 26.62% 622,822 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Friday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows C with 1,281,006 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.25000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
