


MDA to provide RADARSAT-2 imagery to support ESA';s Global Monitoring for Environment and Security program

RICHMOND, B.C., Aug. 10, 2011 /CNW/ - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. ([ TSX: MDA ]), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it has signed a contract in excess of CA$11 million to provide RADARSAT-2 satellite imagery to the European Space Agency (ESA). The imagery will be delivered from June 2011 until May 2014.
The RADARSAT-2 imagery will be used to provide mission critical information for sea ice monitoring of the Baltic Sea and Arctic Ocean throughout the ice seasons, support disaster relief, improve the safety of maritime navigation, asset monitoring, and mapping applications in support of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) program, with funding from the European Union. GMES was established to provide users in Europe with access to accurate and timely information services to better manage the environment, understand and mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure civil security.
