April 11, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2540 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1842 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3707 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. BANK OF IRELAND-SPONS ADR (NYSE:IRE), QUICKLOGIC CORP (NASDAQ:QUIK), ADA-ES INC (NASDAQ:ADES), MICREL INC (NASDAQ:MCRL), WESTPORT INNOVATIONS INC (NASDAQ:WPRT), GELTECH SOLUTIONS INC (OTC:GLTC). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction IRE $-0.270 -11.69% 3,520,236 42.23% 4,717,845 56.60% -1,197,609 -44,356 QUIK $-0.870 -17.86% 979,498 45.90% 1,138,933 53.37% -159,435 -1,833 ADES $-10.080 -45.71% 391,808 42.67% 519,183 56.54% -127,375 -126 MCRL $-1.690 -11.66% 144,055 45.30% 172,024 54.10% -27,969 -165 WPRT $-3.140 -11.74% 1,314,425 47.44% 1,443,744 52.11% -129,319 -412 GLTC $-0.350 -11.29% 69,030 38.07% 112,280 61.93% -43,250 -1,236Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows IRE with a dollar loss Monday of $-0.27000 and a Friction Factor of -44,356 shares. That means that it only took 44,356 more shares of selling than buying to move IRE lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
