Rite Aid Reports 1.1 Percent Same Store Sales Increase for January

CAMP HILL, Pa.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) today announced sales results for January.

Monthly Sales

For the four weeks ended January 22, 2011, same store sales increased 1.1 percent over the prior-year period. Front-end same store sales increased 2.2 percent while pharmacy same store sales, which included an approximate 230 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, increased 0.6 percent. Prescription count at comparable stores was flat compared to the prior-year period.

Total drugstore sales for the four-week period were flat with sales of $1.913 billion compared to $1.913 billion for the same period last year. Prescription revenue accounted for 69.1 percent of drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue represented 93.3 percent of pharmacy sales.

Year-to-Date Sales

Same store sales for the 47-week period ended January 22, 2011 decreased 0.9 percent, consisting of a 0.4 percent front-end same store sales decrease and a 1.1 percent decrease in pharmacy same store sales.

Total drugstore sales for the 47 weeks ended January 22, 2011 decreased 2.0 percent to $22.680 billion from $23.135 billion in last yeara™s like period. Prescription revenue accounted for 67.8 percent of total drugstore sales, and third-party prescription revenue was 96.2 percent of pharmacy sales.
