January 24, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2640 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3242 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1991 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. AMERICAN APPAREL INC (AMEX:APP), INDEPENDENT BANK CORP - MICH (NASDAQ:IBCP), JACKSON HEWITT TAX SERVICE (NYSE:JTX), CENTRAL PACIFIC FINANCIAL CO (NYSE:CPF), ONSTREAM MEDIA CORP (NASDAQ:ONSM), WHITING USA TRUST I (NYSE:WHX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     APP $-0.290 -22.48% 2,116,989 34.13% 3,959,917 63.85% -1,842,928 -63,549
     IBCP $-0.340 -10.06% 180,631 47.71% 197,969 52.29% -17,338 -510
     JTX $-0.220 -12.79% 1,004,399 40.82% 1,466,779 59.62% -462,380 -21,017
     CPF $-0.180 -10.00% 214,655 28.64% 497,168 66.32% -282,513 -15,695
     ONSM $-0.220 -15.71% 131,921 49.07% 136,925 50.93% -5,004 -227
     WHX $-4.990 -23.02% 1,351,687 40.53% 1,771,548 53.11% -419,861 -841

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows WHX with a dollar loss Monday of $-4.99000 and a Friction Factor of -841 shares. That means that it only took 841 more shares of selling than buying to move WHX lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
