Market Maker Surveillance Report. RINO, ALXA, HDY, CREE, DEPO, ONSM, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Tuesday, Jan
January 18, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2644 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2837 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2568 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. RINO INTERNATIONAL CORP (NASDAQ:RINO), ALEXZA PHARMACEUTICALS INC (NASDAQ:ALXA), HYPERDYNAMICS CORP (AMEX:HDY), CREE INC (NASDAQ:CREE), DEPOMED INC (NASDAQ:DEPO), ONSTREAM MEDIA CORP (NASDAQ:ONSM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction RINO $-0.300 -11.03% 124,254 26.36% 209,749 44.49% -85,495 -2,850 ALXA $-0.240 -14.35% 1,537,298 44.82% 1,889,716 55.10% -352,418 -14,684 HDY $-1.170 -16.62% 3,338,695 38.93% 4,218,816 49.19% -880,121 -7,522 CREE $-9.620 -15.09% 3,806,957 47.66% 4,151,429 51.97% -344,472 -358 DEPO $-2.070 -29.07% 1,630,473 44.08% 2,059,059 55.66% -428,586 -2,070 ONSM $-0.180 -14.29% 215,008 47.65% 236,209 52.35% -21,201 -1,178
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows ONSM with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-0.18000 and a Friction Factor of -1,178 shares. That means that it only took 1,178 more shares of selling than buying to move ONSM lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
