Market Maker Surveillance Report. GASS, BTUI, CPF, FRBK, RFMI, LF, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Wednesday, Jan
January 12, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2508 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3279 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2028 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Wednesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. STEALTHGAS INC (NASDAQ:GASS), BTU INTERNATIONAL INC (NASDAQ:BTUI), CENTRAL PACIFIC FINANCIAL CO (NYSE:CPF), REPUBLIC FIRST BANCORP INC (NASDAQ:FRBK), RF MONOLITHICS INC (NASDAQ:RFMI), LEAPFROG ENTERPRISES INC (NYSE:LF). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction GASS $-0.600 -7.35% 69,325 41.36% 97,619 58.25% -28,294 -472 BTUI $-0.920 -7.39% 34,535 48.40% 36,711 51.45% -2,176 -24 CPF $-0.200 -8.16% 506,074 41.38% 641,640 52.47% -135,566 -6,778 FRBK $-0.310 -10.37% 47,946 34.16% 88,907 63.34% -40,961 -1,321 RFMI $-0.130 -6.73% 113,454 43.73% 139,375 53.72% -25,921 -1,994 LF $-1.210 -22.28% 3,467,696 43.17% 3,931,767 48.95% -464,071 -3,835
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows LF with a dollar loss Wednesday of $-1.21000 and a Friction Factor of -3,835 shares. That means that it only took 3,835 more shares of selling than buying to move LF lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
