Market Maker Surveillance Report. IDEH, XLI, JPM, EMC, V, XLU, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Monday, December 13th 2010
December 13, 2010 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2595 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2391 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3075 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. INTERNATIONAL DEV AND ENVIRO (:IDEH), INDUSTRIAL SELECT SECT SPDR (NYSE:XLI), JPMORGAN CHASE & CO (NYSE:JPM), EMC CORP/MASS (NYSE:EMC), VISA INC-CLASS A SHARES (NYSE:V), UTILITIES SELECT SECTOR SPDR (NYSE:XLU). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction IDEH $0.016 23.68% 26,399,001 39.86% 41,663,902 62.90% -15,264,901 Abnormal XLI $0.050 0.16% 4,065,232 44.20% 6,269,432 68.16% -2,204,200 Abnormal JPM $0.220 0.53% 14,490,722 41.05% 17,162,173 48.61% -2,671,451 Abnormal EMC $0.240 1.09% 11,614,433 39.81% 14,761,874 50.59% -3,147,441 Abnormal V $0.690 0.86% 3,481,414 34.11% 5,732,380 56.17% -2,250,966 Abnormal XLU $0.210 0.67% 2,555,479 40.12% 5,525,844 86.76% -2,970,365 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Monday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows XLU with 2,970,365 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.21000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
