December 1, 2010 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2563 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3857 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1784 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Wednesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. A-POWER ENERGY GENERATION (NASDAQ:APWR), SUGGESTION BOX INC (OTC:SGTB), NOVATEL WIRELESS INC (NASDAQ:NVTL), ELONG INC-SPONSORED ADR (NASDAQ:LONG), ICAGEN INC (NASDAQ:ICGN), EMISPHERE TECHNOLOGIES INC (OTCBB:EMIS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction APWR $-1.630 -25.63% 3,703,870 49.40% 3,778,349 50.39% -74,479 -457 SGTB $-0.270 -17.20% 31,600 40.11% 38,683 49.10% -7,083 -262 NVTL $-1.030 -10.50% 1,153,373 45.36% 1,299,812 51.12% -146,439 -1,422 LONG $-1.790 -9.35% 38,743 48.07% 41,452 51.43% -2,709 -15 ICGN $-0.300 -13.76% 1,180,980 44.51% 1,466,700 55.28% -285,720 -9,524 EMIS $-0.210 -8.68% 71,930 36.15% 120,176 60.40% -48,246 -2,297
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows EMIS with a dollar loss Wednesday of $-0.21000 and a Friction Factor of -2,297 shares. That means that it only took 2,297 more shares of selling than buying to move EMIS lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
