  • WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal on Friday urged Delta Air Lines and DraftKings to halt a partnership to offer in-flight gaming to passengers. Blumenthal sent letters to the companies noting a 1962 law outlaws gambling on commercial aircraft.

Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has urged Delta Air Lines to reconsider its decision to end its partnership with the American Airlines-led transatlantic joint business, which also includes British Airways and Iberia. In a letter to Delta's CEO Ed Bastian, Whitehouse expressed concerns that Delta's move could lead to higher fares and reduced competition on transatlantic routes. He highlighted the potential negative impacts on consumers and the broader implications for antitrust enforcement, suggesting that the decision might undermine the benefits that consumers have enjoyed from the joint venture. Whitehouse also questioned the timing of Delta's announcement, which came shortly after the Department of Justice indicated it would not challenge the partnership's renewal.
