December 12, 2016 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 5563 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2428 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3893 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Intrepid Potash Inc. (NYSE:IPI), Tvia Inc (Old) (NASDAQ:TVIA), Johnson Outdoors Inc. (NASDAQ:JOUT), Helios and Matheson Analytics Inc. (NASDAQ:HMNY), Credit Suisse VelocityShares 3X Long Natural Gas Exchange Traded Notes 2012- Linked to S&P GSCI Natu (NYSE:UGAZ), Performant Financial Corp. (NASDAQ:PFMT). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction IPI $-0.490 -0.19% 1,229,179 36.43% 1,383,358 41.00% -154,179 -3,147 TVIA $-0.300 -0.19% 497,084 37.13% 543,770 40.62% -46,686 -1,556 JOUT $-9.760 -0.22% 40,548 24.59% 59,940 36.35% -19,392 -20 HMNY $-0.890 -0.17% 210,936 36.55% 243,575 42.21% -32,639 -367 UGAZ $-8.560 -0.18% 2,726,107 31.29% 3,556,193 40.82% -830,086 -970 PFMT $-1.660 -0.43% 156,949 23.77% 214,640 32.51% -57,691 -348Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows IPI with a dollar loss Monday of $-0.49000 and a Friction Factor of -3,147 shares. That means that it only took 3,147 more shares of selling than buying to move IPI lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
