October 3, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 4036 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2396 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2960 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Wednesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Liveperson Inc (NASDAQ:LPSN), NuVasive Inc (NASDAQ:NUVA), Xyratex Ltd (NASDAQ:XRTX), Gastar Exploration Ltd (AMEX:GST), Appalaches Resources Inc (AMEX:APP), Kraton Performance Polymers Inc (NYSE:KRA). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction LPSN $-1.850 -10.23% 107,744 43.52% 138,258 55.85% -30,514 -165 NUVA $-5.020 -21.82% 277,640 48.54% 285,970 49.99% -8,330 -17 XRTX $-1.450 -16.67% 1,205,638 48.81% 1,257,296 50.90% -51,658 -356 GST $-0.420 -25.15% 896,411 31.74% 990,996 35.08% -94,585 -2,252 APP $-0.170 -11.33% 381,053 33.20% 481,495 41.95% -100,442 -5,908 KRA $-3.560 -14.12% 343,393 32.05% 368,805 34.42% -25,412 -71Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows LPSN with a dollar loss Wednesday of $-1.85000 and a Friction Factor of -165 shares. That means that it only took 165 more shares of selling than buying to move LPSN lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
