August 27, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 4043 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2486 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2816 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. Newmont Mining Corp (NYSE:NEM), BANK OF AMERICA CORPORATION (NYSE:BAC), AT&T Inc (NYSE:T), PulteGroup Inc (NYSE:PHM), Dow Chemical Co (NYSE:DOW), Hewlett-Packard Co (NYSE:HPQ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction NEM $-0.110 -0.22% 1,880,669 45.06% 860,852 20.63% 1,019,817 Abnormal BAC $-0.100 -1.23% 42,330,047 45.49% 32,434,621 34.85% 9,895,426 Abnormal T $-0.090 -0.23% 8,841,652 43.53% 5,139,072 25.30% 3,702,580 Abnormal PHM $-0.270 -2.00% 4,424,162 37.49% 3,525,012 29.87% 899,150 Abnormal DOW $-0.520 -1.74% 2,532,032 46.18% 1,416,736 25.84% 1,115,296 Abnormal HPQ $-0.380 -2.16% 9,859,467 36.40% 8,348,583 30.82% 1,510,884 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Monday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows NEM with 1,019,817 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.11000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
