August 28, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 4201 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2531 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2645 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. BP Prudhoe Bay Royalty Trust (NYSE:BPT), Eltek Ltd (NASDAQ:ELTK), Ampio Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:AMPE), Dycom Industries Inc (NYSE:DY), CHINA HYDROELECTRIC CP-ADS (NYSE:CHC), Equal Energy Ltd (NYSE:EQU). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  BPT $-8.840 -8.63% 471,478 34.87% 511,788 37.85% -40,310 -46
  ELTK $-0.190 -13.87% 123,804 40.04% 185,407 59.96% -61,603 -3,242
  AMPE $-0.340 -10.53% 394,051 41.86% 541,982 57.57% -147,931 -4,351
  DY $-1.880 -10.28% 273,738 38.13% 275,313 38.35% -1,575 -8
  CHC $-0.100 -8.30% 44,117 26.11% 72,860 43.12% -28,743 -2,874
  EQU $-0.290 -7.86% 44,585 25.77% 76,003 43.92% -31,418 -1,083
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows BPT with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-8.84000 and a Friction Factor of -46 shares. That means that it only took 46 more shares of selling than buying to move BPT lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
