March 29, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3666 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2125 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3552 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. COCA-COLA CO/THE (NYSE:KO), APPLIED MATERIALS, INC. (NASDAQ:AMAT), CVS CAREMARK CORP (NYSE:CVS), Amarin Corp PLC (NASDAQ:AMRN), ILLUMINA INC (NASDAQ:ILMN), MACK TRUCKS INC (:MACK). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  KO $1.150 1.58% 5,252,983 26.07% 7,506,020 37.25% -2,253,037 Abnormal
  AMAT $0.020 0.16% 5,822,976 46.15% 6,750,965 53.50% -927,989 Abnormal
  CVS $0.020 0.05% 1,923,205 25.71% 2,968,072 39.67% -1,044,867 Abnormal
  AMRN $0.160 1.43% 1,740,456 34.75% 3,253,807 64.97% -1,513,351 Abnormal
  ILMN $2.650 5.31% 6,636,496 45.01% 7,973,485 54.08% -1,336,989 Abnormal
  MACK $6.000 0.00% 1,357,177 35.92% 2,400,212 63.53% -1,043,035 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows KO with 2,253,037 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $1.15000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
