Market Maker Surveillance Report. BTM, AE, OPHC, OREX, CASC, FFN, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Friday, March 3
March 30, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3813 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3040 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2820 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. BRASIL TELECOM SA-ADR (NYSE:BTM), ADAMS RESOURCES & ENERGY INC (AMEX:AE), OPTIMUMBANK HOLDINGS INC (NASDAQ:OPHC), OREXIGEN THERAPEUTICS INC (NASDAQ:OREX), CASCADE CORP (NYSE:CASC), (NASDAQ:FFN). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction BTM $-4.710 -22.85% 107,778 27.09% 122,638 30.83% -14,860 -32 AE $-7.100 -11.05% 53,870 34.08% 56,935 36.02% -3,065 -4 OPHC $-0.420 -10.77% 170,585 44.20% 210,428 54.52% -39,843 -949 OREX $-0.440 -9.80% 2,240,561 44.11% 2,826,679 55.65% -586,118 -13,321 CASC $-5.250 -9.48% 71,885 28.55% 76,175 30.25% -4,290 -8 FFN $-0.280 -17.07% 460,804 38.80% 726,774 61.20% -265,970 -9,499Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows BTM with a dollar loss Friday of $-4.71000 and a Friction Factor of -32 shares. That means that it only took 32 more shares of selling than buying to move BTM lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
