Messina Intersects 5.5% Copper Over 4 Meters at Brook Zone, Victoria Property

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 21, 2012) - Messina Minerals Inc. (TSX VENTURE:MMI) has received final assay results from a nine hole diamond drill program at the Brook prospect within the Victoria Property, central Newfoundland, Canada. The highlight of the drill program was an intersection from 20.58 m of 5.5% copper over 4.0 meters in hole VIC11-02. The Victoria Property is within Messina's large ~450 square kilometer land package prospective for base metal deposits and located approximately 20 kilometers from the Duck Pond zinc-copper mine.

The objective of the drill program was to test the near-surface continuity of copper-enriched massive sulphide mineralization (see News Releases December 16, 2011 and January 9, 2012). A total of nine holes were completed to depths down hole ranging from 30 meters to 60 meters with 430 meters in total of core recovered. Holes were spaced 25 meters apart and tested a 75 meter strike length to a depth of ~50 meters vertical.

Six of nine holes intersected pyrite- and copper-bearing massive sulphide intervals over 1.0 to 4.0 meters down hole with assays from 1.1% copper to 5.5% copper. An abundance of "chaotic carbonate" alteration is associated with the massive sulphides. The sulphide zone is shown to be continuous across the 75 meters of length tested. The sulphide zone has an apparent dip of approximately 45 degrees; the VIC11-02 intersection of 5.5% copper over 4.0 meters and those other holes drilled at 45 degree angles approximately estimate true thicknesses. A drill hole summary is listed below.

The results of the drilling program are consistent with those obtained from grab sampling the limited exposures available. Peter Tallman, President and CEO states "The Brook prospect contains copper-bearing massive sulphide enveloped by an abundance of carbonate alteration which suggests the immediate area continues to be prospective."

Drill Core Samples

NTW-size drill core was recovered by New Valley Drilling of Springdale, Newfoundland. Core samples were collected by sawing the core in half with one half sent for assay and one half retained and archived. Drill core samples in this news release were submitted to Eastern Analytical of Springdale, Newfoundland for analysis. Eastern Analytical analyzed for copper, zinc, lead, and silver using a 50 gram sub-sample by aqua regia digestion and atomic absorption finish, while gold was analyzed by fire assay with an atomic absorption finish using a 30 gram sub-sample. Messina uses sampling and QA/QC procedures standard to the industry including maintenance of chain of custody, the retention of pulps and coarse rejects, and the use of standards, blanks, and duplicates.
