Market Maker Surveillance Report. BLTI, SCO, PETS, TNCC, NSPH, ZSL, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Monday, May 9
May 9, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2600 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3274 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1827 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. BIOLASE TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:BLTI), PROSHRE U/S DJ-UBS CRUDE OIL (NYSE:SCO), PETMED EXPRESS INC (NASDAQ:PETS), TENNESSEE COMMERCE BANCORP (NASDAQ:TNCC), NANOSPHERE INC (NASDAQ:NSPH), PROSHARES ULTRASHORT SILVER (NYSE:ZSL). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction BLTI $-0.610 -11.44% 431,367 37.86% 704,162 61.81% -272,795 -4,472 SCO $-4.950 -10.43% 590,456 22.56% 645,643 24.67% -55,187 -111 PETS $-1.580 -10.73% 983,904 44.18% 1,142,053 51.28% -158,149 -1,001 TNCC $-0.350 -12.04% 76,913 48.11% 82,971 51.89% -6,058 -173 NSPH $-0.620 -21.60% 53,273 43.77% 68,425 56.23% -15,152 -244 ZSL $-3.810 -16.49% 8,755,349 33.72% 9,616,705 37.03% -861,356 -2,261Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows BLTI with a dollar loss Monday of $-0.61000 and a Friction Factor of -4,472 shares. That means that it only took 4,472 more shares of selling than buying to move BLTI lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
