Market Maker Surveillance Report. SPY, LRCX, CRUS, GLD, MSFT, HST, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Friday, May 6th 2011
May 6, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2879 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2770 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1951 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), LAM RESEARCH CORP (NASDAQ:LRCX), CIRRUS LOGIC INC (NASDAQ:CRUS), SPDR GOLD TRUST (NYSE:GLD), MICROSOFT CORP (NASDAQ:MSFT), HOST HOTELS & RESORTS INC (NYSE:HST). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction SPY $0.320 0.24% 49,650,567 22.29% 52,220,811 23.44% -2,570,244 Abnormal LRCX $1.230 2.58% 3,000,583 39.85% 4,478,914 59.48% -1,478,331 Abnormal CRUS $0.360 2.22% 6,578,915 54.52% 8,336,991 69.09% -1,758,076 Abnormal GLD $2.300 1.60% 4,352,487 18.01% 5,977,628 24.73% -1,625,141 Abnormal MSFT $0.150 0.57% 26,596,353 47.55% 30,773,680 55.02% -4,177,327 Abnormal HST $0.130 0.73% 2,811,437 24.27% 5,953,823 51.41% -3,142,386 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows SPY with 2,570,244 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.32000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
