Market Maker Surveillance Report. SMTX, ANLY, OME, LCUT, FTWR, IGOI, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Friday, May
May 6, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2879 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2770 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1951 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. SMTC CORPORATION (NASDAQ:SMTX), ANALYSTS INTERNATIONAL CORP (NASDAQ:ANLY), OMEGA PROTEIN CORP (NYSE:OME), LIFETIME BRANDS INC (NASDAQ:LCUT), FIBERTOWER CORP (NASDAQ:FTWR), IGO INC (NASDAQ:IGOI). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction SMTX $-0.540 -21.43% 392,579 48.96% 406,337 50.67% -13,758 -255 ANLY $-0.770 -17.40% 35,987 32.22% 72,614 65.01% -36,627 -476 OME $-1.660 -13.08% 190,130 31.65% 240,244 39.99% -50,114 -302 LCUT $-1.620 -11.62% 42,486 42.61% 56,053 56.22% -13,567 -84 FTWR $-0.200 -16.53% 333,697 47.68% 366,218 52.32% -32,521 -1,626 IGOI $-0.380 -14.23% 350,345 34.16% 673,547 65.67% -323,202 -8,505Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows SMTX with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.54000 and a Friction Factor of -255 shares. That means that it only took 255 more shares of selling than buying to move SMTX lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
