March 2, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2689 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2757 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2358 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. HEALTH CARE SELECT SECTOR (NYSE:XLV), CITIGROUP INC (NYSE:C), GENERAL ELECTRIC CO (NYSE:GE), HEALTH CARE REIT INC (NYSE:HCN), SPRINT NEXTEL CORP (NYSE:S), UNITED STATES OIL FUND LP (NYSE:USO). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     XLV $0.090 0.27% 4,572,083 38.95% 7,219,328 61.50% -2,647,245 Abnormal
     C $0.030 0.58% 163,940,841 46.73% 177,779,004 50.67% -13,838,163 Abnormal
     GE $0.070 0.35% 19,595,886 40.02% 22,765,661 46.49% -3,169,775 Abnormal
     HCN $0.020 0.04% 10,040,911 41.61% 12,932,579 53.59% -2,891,668 Abnormal
     S $0.040 1.03% 22,287,926 41.33% 26,330,037 48.82% -4,042,111 Abnormal
     USO $0.900 2.22% 12,293,198 47.32% 14,364,022 55.29% -2,070,824 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Wednesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows XLV with 2,647,245 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.09000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
