February 28, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. On Monday there were 2763 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3185 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2187 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the highest net buy volume on Monday and lowest price Friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. ISHARES RUSSELL 2000 (NYSE:IWM), HAMPTON ROADS BANKSHARES INC (NASDAQ:HMPR), SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), BANK OF AMERICA CORP (NYSE:BAC), HUDSON CITY BANCORP INC (NASDAQ:HCBK), JOHNSON & JOHNSON (NYSE:JNJ). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction IWM $0.230 0.28% 26,850,920 53.70% 22,998,203 46.00% 3,852,717 167,509 HMPR $0.080 9.60% 3,964,491 95.12% 203,402 4.88% 3,761,089 470,136 SPY $0.820 0.62% 68,969,348 51.49% 65,394,321 48.82% 3,575,027 43,598 BAC $0.090 0.63% 59,049,194 47.47% 54,229,509 43.59% 4,819,685 535,521 HCBK $0.090 0.80% 15,173,708 79.41% 3,914,214 20.48% 11,259,494 1,251,055 JNJ $1.810 3.03% 10,767,161 56.18% 6,932,155 36.17% 3,835,006 21,188Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar gains (Change) and very low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows IWM with a Net Buy Volume of 3,852,717 shares and a Friction Factor of 167,509 shares. That means that it takes 167,509 more shares of buying than selling to move IWM higher by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to move up higher as of Monday (lower friction). And with one of the highest Net Buy Volumes, the combination of low friction and high net buy volume is bullish.
