January 27, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2719 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2652 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2364 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. CHIMERA INVESTMENT CORP (NYSE:CIM), BANCO SANTANDER SA-SPON ADR (NYSE:STD), SIRIUS XM RADIO INC (NASDAQ:SIRI), BANK OF AMERICA CORP (NYSE:BAC), CITIGROUP INC (NYSE:C), SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     CIM $0.020 0.48% 9,370,434 40.86% 12,578,729 54.84% -3,208,295 Abnormal
     STD $0.570 4.80% 6,440,816 33.43% 10,119,778 52.52% -3,678,962 Abnormal
     SIRI $0.020 1.09% 8,914,682 35.07% 16,504,857 64.93% -7,590,175 Abnormal
     BAC $0.130 0.96% 66,782,210 44.14% 70,583,512 46.65% -3,801,302 Abnormal
     C $0.020 0.31% 124,265,966 46.30% 135,506,494 50.49% -11,240,528 Abnormal
     SPY $0.280 0.22% 57,255,070 46.96% 62,181,719 51.00% -4,926,649 Abnormal

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows SPY with 4,926,649 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.28000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
