Market Maker Surveillance Report. DARA, HAUP, SCMF, ULBI, BKRS, CPWM, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Wednesday,
December 29, 2010 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2589 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3136 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2308 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Wednesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. DARA BIOSCIENCES INC (NASDAQ:DARA), HAUPPAUGE DIGITAL INC (NASDAQ:HAUP), SOUTHERN COMMUNITY FINANCIAL (NASDAQ:SCMF), ULTRALIFE CORP (NASDAQ:ULBI), BAKERS FOOTWEAR GROUP INC (OTCBB:BKRS), COST PLUS INC/CALIFORNIA (NASDAQ:CPWM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction DARA $-0.330 -10.61% 248,812 25.58% 718,083 73.84% -469,271 -14,220 HAUP $-0.380 -14.45% 366,639 38.86% 573,151 60.75% -206,512 -5,435 SCMF $-0.140 -11.76% 25,902 21.36% 95,363 78.64% -69,461 -4,962 ULBI $-0.980 -13.86% 198,825 42.89% 264,396 57.04% -65,571 -669 BKRS $-0.340 -27.42% 51,704 31.03% 52,633 31.59% -929 -27 CPWM $-1.920 -15.41% 642,248 47.61% 678,765 50.32% -36,517 -190
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows CPWM with a dollar loss Wednesday of $-1.92000 and a Friction Factor of -190 shares. That means that it only took 190 more shares of selling than buying to move CPWM lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
