Market Maker Surveillance Report. FAZ, BQI, IAU, DRYS, NOVL, SIRI, Highest Net Sell Volume and Negative Price Friction For Thu
December 2, 2010 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2435 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3663 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1993 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the highest net sell volume on Thursday and lowest negative price Friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. DIREXION DAILY FINL BEAR 3X (NYSE:FAZ), OILSANDS QUEST INC (AMEX:BQI), ISHARES COMEX GOLD TRUST (NYSE:IAU), DRYSHIPS INC (NASDAQ:DRYS), NOVELL INC (NASDAQ:NOVL), SIRIUS XM RADIO INC (NASDAQ:SIRI). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction FAZ $-0.860 -7.26% 17,968,615 43.81% 23,131,199 56.40% -5,162,584 -60,030 BQI $-0.010 -2.86% 566,230 17.70% 2,592,674 81.04% -2,026,444 -2,026,444 IAU $-0.030 -0.26% 2,058,908 28.96% 5,049,782 71.04% -2,990,874 -996,958 DRYS $-0.030 -0.57% 7,545,884 34.38% 14,394,063 65.58% -6,848,179 -2,282,726 NOVL $-0.010 -0.17% 2,560,299 33.37% 5,079,435 66.20% -2,519,136 -2,519,136 SIRI $-0.010 -0.72% 8,614,556 43.76% 10,849,788 55.11% -2,235,232 -2,235,232
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have low price friction combined with more selling than buying (negative Net Volume) in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows SIRI down $-0.01000 with a Friction Factor of -2,235,232 and a Net Volume of -2,235,232. That means that it takes 2,235,232 more shares of selling than buying to drop SIRI by one penny. On Monday the Market Makers allowed the stock to move down on heavier selling than buying (low negative friction).
