New Hampshire could become the first state in the country to enable its state treasurer to invest in cryptocurrency.
The New Hampshire state treasurer, Monica Mezzapelle, has proposed a bill that would allow the state to accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment for taxes, fines, and fees. The bill, which has been introduced in the state legislature, aims to position New Hampshire as a leader in the adoption of digital currencies. Under the proposed legislation, the state would convert any received cryptocurrency into U.S. dollars immediately upon receipt to avoid market volatility risks. The initiative reflects a growing trend of states exploring the use of cryptocurrencies in government transactions, with New Hampshire joining others like Colorado and Wyoming in considering such measures.
