Japan's Mitsubishi may consider investing in Alaska LNG project, CEO says

Japanese trading house Mitsubishi Corp may consider investing in the Alaska LNG project in the United States, Chief Executive Katsuya Nakanishi said on Thursday, adding that careful due diligence would be needed before any decision.

Mitsubishi Corp. is considering investing in the Alaska LNG project, as stated by CEO Katsuya Nakanishi during a visit to Alaska. The project, valued at $39 billion, involves building a pipeline to transport natural gas from Alaska's North Slope to a liquefaction plant in Nikiski, where it would be converted into LNG for export. Nakanishi expressed interest in the project's potential to supply LNG to Japan and other Asian markets, highlighting the strategic importance of securing stable energy supplies. He also mentioned that Mitsubishi would need to conduct further studies to assess the project's feasibility and profitability before making a final investment decision.
