March 16, 2017 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 5561 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3422 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2421 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Arotech Corporation (NASDAQ:ARTX), Avid Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:AVID), PFSweb Inc. (NASDAQ:PFSW), TrovaGene Inc. (NASDAQ:TROV), Neurotrope Inc. (OTC:NTRP), Zosano Pharma (NASDAQ:ZSAN). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction ARTX $-0.900 -0.22% 1,115,030 34.64% 1,130,526 35.12% -15,496 -172 AVID $-0.910 -0.17% 826,346 31.71% 1,032,059 39.61% -205,713 -2,261 PFSW $-0.980 -0.13% 95,756 31.60% 120,449 39.75% -24,693 -252 TROV $-0.450 -0.26% 942,152 38.52% 1,103,900 45.13% -161,748 -3,594 NTRP $-3.350 -0.15% 93,918 36.51% 122,996 47.82% -29,078 -87 ZSAN $-0.340 -0.17% 1,917,041 38.01% 2,047,879 40.61% -130,838 -3,848Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows ARTX with a dollar loss Thursday of $-0.90000 and a Friction Factor of -172 shares. That means that it only took 172 more shares of selling than buying to move ARTX lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
