Market Maker Surveillance Report. JRCC, SAM, AVEO, AVNW, BOIL, UGAZ, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Thursday, Ma
May 2, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3796 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3526 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1770 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. James River Coal Co (NASDAQ:JRCC), The Boston Beer Company Inc (NYSE:SAM), Aveo Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:AVEO), Aviat Networks Inc (NASDAQ:AVNW), ProShares Ultra DJ UBS Natural Gas ETF (NYSE:BOIL), (NYSE:UGAZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction JRCC $-0.210 -9.86% 662,922 41.26% 943,816 58.74% -280,894 -13,376 SAM $-19.310 -11.63% 193,272 31.45% 225,458 36.69% -32,186 -17 AVEO $-2.610 -49.62% 6,920,944 45.51% 8,169,148 53.72% -1,248,204 -4,782 AVNW $-0.350 -11.80% 568,261 45.93% 668,486 54.03% -100,225 -2,864 BOIL $-6.940 -12.31% 95,433 31.79% 127,266 42.39% -31,833 -46 UGAZ $-6.860 -18.68% 223,206 28.90% 330,589 42.80% -107,383 -157Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows JRCC with a dollar loss Thursday of $-0.21000 and a Friction Factor of -13,376 shares. That means that it only took 13,376 more shares of selling than buying to move JRCC lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
