April 23, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3799 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3653 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1751 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Acura Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ACUR), Vical Inc (NASDAQ:VICL), Erickson Air-Crane Inc (NASDAQ:EAC), StealthGas Inc (NASDAQ:GASS), ARCA Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:ABIO), Kips Bay Medical Inc (NASDAQ:KIPS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction ACUR $-0.200 -7.07% 387,230 41.18% 551,915 58.70% -164,685 -8,234 VICL $-0.240 -6.40% 258,752 49.95% 259,300 50.05% -548 -23 EAC $-1.310 -6.36% 74,629 41.53% 102,791 57.20% -28,162 -215 GASS $-0.830 -7.41% 208,815 46.21% 242,612 53.68% -33,797 -407 ABIO $-0.320 -11.03% 177,338 43.63% 229,076 56.37% -51,738 -1,617 KIPS $-0.130 -8.67% 62,211 47.01% 70,128 52.99% -7,917 -609Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows ACUR with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-0.20000 and a Friction Factor of -8,234 shares. That means that it only took 8,234 more shares of selling than buying to move ACUR lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
