April 16, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 4018 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3471 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1769 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. MGIC Investment Corp (NYSE:MTG), IAMGOLD CORP (NYSE:IAG), KINROSS GOLD CORP (NYSE:KGC), Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), Barrick Gold Corp (NYSE:ABX), Arch Coal Inc (NYSE:ACI). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction MTG $-0.040 -0.87% 5,781,884 34.59% 4,761,304 28.48% 1,020,580 Abnormal IAG $-0.220 -4.22% 3,688,695 32.27% 2,499,623 21.87% 1,189,072 Abnormal KGC $-0.020 -0.37% 7,928,936 34.01% 4,974,964 21.34% 2,953,972 Abnormal VZ $-0.160 -0.32% 6,669,181 44.68% 4,051,222 27.14% 2,617,959 Abnormal ABX $-0.920 -4.65% 12,507,504 29.35% 10,231,065 24.00% 2,276,439 Abnormal ACI $-0.190 -3.89% 5,615,291 34.61% 4,591,854 28.30% 1,023,437 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Tuesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows MTG with 1,020,580 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.04000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
